Dear lord, some people really are zombie-proof.

There are no words. Or perhaps there are too many of them, all shoving for prominence.

Gyah! That's... astonishing. And horrible. Are people really so cowed by authority? Because yikes! That's truly frightening.

Why do I sense if a network got ahold of this , that it would be the lastest plot of some cop drama?

Law & Order: SVU...next year, or maybe even this coming Spring.

Yes, most people are really so cowed by authority, even more so today than 30 years ago. Did we learn nothing from "Doublemeat Palace"?

Now, the truly amazing thing about this, for me, is that in this very lengthy article that questions again and again how people could be made to obey the orders of a disembodied voice of authority, there is not one mention of the word hypnosis.

That is all hypnosis is; surrendering your will to the dictates of someone's voice. If I am very confident and authoritative and I tell you that you are starting to feel something, you find no reason to doubt me and, hey, you start to feel that! That's all it takes. I can build on that, reiterating over and over again that you are going to do and feel and say exactly what I tell you to--not that you might, but that you will.

And no, you will not do anything under hypnosis that you wouldn't be willing to do anyway, but that's not the point. In these cases, the opportunities to do the things that were done would not have existed, had the victims not succumbed to the mesmerizing voice of the telephone caller.

I can't believe that none of the defense attorneys have gone with this?

20/20 or Dateline or something like that did a show last Thursday about this very case.

It's creepy and eww and just argh.

Me too. Physically *ill*. That poor girl, with her life now in ruins.

Oh, there are plenty of words. Mostly the kind you can't say on the air in this country.
