I found the first book in a sale bin in a drugstore, years ago, and had no idea it was the beginning of a saga. In fact, I usually put a lot of store in cover art, and this had some of the worst I'd ever seen.
Well, I ended up reading 8 of the following books, I think, and then burning out over it. I decided to let it go until it was determined whether the series would ever end. Now it appears that the end is, indeed, in sight, so I may try to catch up on those I haven't read.
It is a fairly complicated and VERY, VERY long fantasy quest tale of Rand al'Thor, the Dragon Reborn. Lots (I mean lots) of politics and religion. The one thing I will say is that women get a fair shake in Jordan's work. In fact, they often end up in power, and certainly one group is almost always the power behind the throne, if not in front of it!
