The library in the Penthouse Suite of the Fairmont Hotel, San Francisco. (A mere $12,500/night for the 6,000 sq ft suite).

I love libraries like that. Love, love. Especially if the walls are dark wood as well, but you can't have everything.

One of my favorite scenes in the original Superman movie is when we first see Lex Luthor's underground lair and he's in that fabulous, round two-story library. And then he's on the ladder and he goes scooting around, and I have no idea what the dialogue is.

Who cares when he's riding the ladder with wheels in the floor-to-ceiling library!?

Booooooks...shelllllvvves...liiiiibrariiees....[drools]

My favorite (of the ones I could see; my connection is still slow & stops before all the images are complete) is the Stiftsbibliothek St. Gallen. Guhh. And I gotta say I never thought of the name "Biblioteca de la Real Academia de la Lengua Madrid" quite that way before...ahem.

But--no Library of Congress?? I did some research work there in my last semester of college & for some months after. The marble, the wood, the scenes painted on the ceiling, the dome of the main room...mmmm. I had fantasies of living there!

Finally, this puts me in mind of a filksong, not about a whole library but about one book. Once I remembered the right lyrics, I found it on Google. Even the title is another twist on...well, you'll see (http://www.ovff.org/pegasus/songs/x-libris.html)!

6,000 sq. feet? Does the cost include a search party if you get lost in there?

OMG, I want that library!
