There are elephants galumping loudly around my house but every time I look for them they disguise themselves as cats.
Joss Whedon on Crafts and Craftiness:

"It's an age-old war. Like the werewolves and the vampires. I think Underworld was actually originally about crocheters and knitters but they thought it would be too controversial so they changed it to vampires and werewolves."
Bizarre but funny fleeting thought...

Imagine the conversation between Spike and Harmony over Twilight.

Hi from [ profile] ladystarlightsj and me, from somewhere in Washington between Oregon and Spokane!! Hee!
On Sunday, [ profile] ladystarlightsj and I had lunch at Darby's Pub. Darby wasn't there at the time, but we did find Graffiti in the ladies' room. We didn't ask why.

Unexpected song choice for 'One Hit Wonders Weekend':

"We Are The Champions"
For my friends who are Muppet fans -- I found this game years ago and it's one of the bestest-ever time-wasters! The company had long gone out of business and on a whim I googled and here it is!!!

Link from [ profile] kyuuketsukirui: The 1977 J.C. Penney Calalog with commentary.

My favorite comment there:

"Wore that, dated someone that wore that, Dad had that, had a crush on someone that wore that, aspired to but never attained matching shirts with significant other....thanks for the memories. Now I have to live with the shame of confronting not just my past wardrobe but also hairstyles..."

I was all "Yay!!" and then I realized I was supposed to do the good deed.

But the best part is that it spawned this thread.

Have you ever been driving along the freeway and seen one of those concrete stairways that go up a hill on the side and considered stopping and climbing it just to see where it goes and then thought, "but there might be sand-people up there" so you didn't?
Best reason ever for not reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows when it comes out:

"I'm not reading Book Seven. It will probably be all about Harry..."

Also, for you're added edification:

"Canon is just one of one of the better fanfics out there."

Overheard in the eye-doctor's waiting room:

CNN was reporting on a Supreme Court case where a student had been banned from displaying a banner that read "BONG HITS 4 JESUS" outside his school, and the ruling was upheld on the grounds that schools can ban things that are determined to be promoting drugs...
Woman in waiting room: "That's ridiculous! That has nothing to do with drugs! Do they even know what a bong is?!"
Incredibly apropos CNN person: "For those who don't know, a bong is used for smoking marijuana and other substances..."
Woman: "Oh."
CNN drones on...
Woman: "The only bong I know of is that Chinese kind that makes noise when you hit it..."

She remained quite indignant that the poor student's encouragement of making noise for Jesus resulted in his suspension, and in the Supreme Court upholding it.

For those of you who know your Myers-Briggs personality type, here is a description relevant for today's world:

Not your typical Myers-Briggs profiles.

I'm an INFP:

INFP: The Idealist

The INFP is a dreamy, imaginitive, idealist, capable of finding the good in anything or anyone, even something as foul as Newark, New Jersey. INFPs are sometimes dangerous to the well-being of society as a whole, as they are prone to adopting subversive and destructive ideologies like "The world should be fair," "People should treat one another well," and "You know, 'Friends' is a really, really stupid television show."

These irrational thought patterns may sometimes cause INFPs to run off and join the circus, the Resistance, or the Rebellion, where they tend to do well in any position requiring excellent hand-eye coordination or mastery of the Force.

COMPATIBILITY: INFPs and ISTJs generally exhibit a natural predator/prey relationship, which, though it might appear harsh and cruel from the outside, is all part of the natural cycle of life. In fact, were it not for the predation of the ISTJ, the population of INFPs would soon grow to unsustainable levels, overwhelming the ability of their ecological niche to support them.

Famous idealists include that girl in your sixth-grade homeroom who got the teacher fired for saying that girls aren't good at math; that guy in the cubicle next to yours who got the manager fired for saying that women don't make good employees; and Anais Nin.

Of course, the last time an ISTJ thought he'd take advantage of me by making me write my job description and his, I took the opportunity to put the things I liked doing in mine, and the things I didn't much care for in his. "Just split the tasks between us," he said. "Okey dokey," I replied.
Am back from my week in DC/Maryland with, as usual, a lot of photos to get resized and posted, at which point I shall picspampost. For the first few days I thought I was in an AU DC because I was not accustomed to clear blue, very blue, skies and white fluffy clouds there.

And see what happends when cats and Firefly/Serenity collide.

Still with the schmoopiness from last night and LadyStarlight (not to mention the Simon-ing and Garfunkle-ing and a couple of fabulous back-up singers---ladies, we were "mahrvelous, simply mahrvelous"):

For my f'list

Old friends, old friends,
Sat on their parkbench like bookends
A newspaper blown through the grass
Falls on the round toes
of the high shoes of the old friends

Old friends, winter companions, the old men
Lost in their overcoats, waiting for the sunset
The sounds of the city sifting through trees
Settles like dust on the shoulders of the old friends

Can you imagine us years from today,
Sharing a parkbench quietly
How terribly strange to be seventy

Old friends, memory brushes the same years,
Silently sharing the same fears

Time it was and what a time it was it was,
A time of innocence a time of confidences.

Long ago it must be, I have a photograph
Preserve your memories, they're all that's left you

(I suspect, though, that LadyS and I are more likely to be "cheating at Bingo and forgetting to take our pills...")
