Why your publisher, which is you, should seek a better Internet Lawyer than the current legal counsel, which is you:

As for her publisher, AV Paranormal, their official statement in regards to accusations of copyright infringement is as follows:

"When fictional characters become such an intricate part of the popular psyche, as is the case with the Twilight Saga, legal boundaries become blurred, and copyright laws become increasingly difficult to define. This is especially the case when actual cities like Forks and Volterra are used as the novel's settings. Such settings are not copyrightable, as they are considered public domain. Similarly, the Quileute Nation is also not copyrightable, and neither are vampire or werewolf legends. Copyright laws protect writers from unauthorized reproductions of their work, but such reproductions only include verbatim copying. Characters are only copyrightable if their creator draws them or hires an artist to draw them. Stephenie Meyer herself borrowed a great deal from previous works dealing with these mythologies."

Two things

1. Check out Sparkly Vampire Nonsense (http://www.sociallydead.com) written by one of the daughter of one of the ladies on one of my paranormal writers mailing lists.

2. I practically hyperventilated at the bookstore today.

me: I didn't get any calls yet, but one of my books was supposed to be in Tuesday.
salestypeperson: Let me check. what's your name
Me: Jean Ryan
salestypeperson: What's it called?
Me: Magic Strikes, I think. It's magic something by Ilona Andrews.
salestypeperson comes back holding my book nice little paperback book.
me: are there any more? (thinking Blueberry Girl)
salestypeperson: I'll check (salestypeperson comes back holding a bigger hard cover book) It says Ryan, but I don't know if that is you
I take one look at it. The colors are unmistakable. So is the dark figure on the cover holding a sword. Even though the title is covered by a piece of paper that says "Ryan" on it, I know what it is.
Me: THAT'S (title redacted because I really shouldn't have it)!!!!! THAT'S MINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (imagine there are more !!!!. I got tired of typing them)
salestypeperson: nice to see it's so easy to make you happy.

What made me so happy you may ask. (I'll pretend you asked). 418 pages and its initials are T.C. Yes. I have in my hot little hands TC already!!!!

You will be proud of me. I saved my scream for when I got in the car.

3. I'm on-line tonight, if you want to chat. I just started TC, so I can't spoil you and I wouldn't if I could, but I can't so you don't have to worry about me spoiling you. all I read was the first chapter and OMG already it is the best one yet.
